Extremely Incredible

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer

Nine-year-old Oskar Schell has embarked on an urgent, secret mission that will take him through the five boroughs of New York. His goal is to find the lock that matches a mysterious key that belonged to his father, who died in the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11. This seemingly impossible task will bring Oskar into contact with survivors of all sorts on an exhilarating, affecting, often hilarious, and ultimately healing journey.

(Avert your eyes if you dislike spoilers!!!)
Jonathan Safran Foer's creation brings me to one of those nights when I was a kid. Before I go to sleep I would think about all those good things and all the adventure I could experience. I would fantasize about being good in Science and solving puzzles and making complicated knots. All those things were all in my mind. I've never done it before but I would love to do it in the near future.

Oskar lost his dad in the 9/11 attacks and I guess it was the plot that got me. His adventures reminded me so much of myself, even though were not really alike. He speaks like he knows where to go and what to do and I liked that. And that Things That Happened To Me scrapbook says so much about himself and the world he lives in. It's quite unpredictable, like the photographs on it. He keeps it to himself so he could look back to everything, just like the Reconnaissance Expedition to find the Sixth Borough of New York. He would do everything related to that expedition, for him to extend his time with his dad, even though he's gone. Oskar's dad left him something that constantly reminds him to "notstop looking" (yes, "notstop".) And so his journey begins.

I liked the idea of the novel. I think it's because of the WHY I'M NOT WHERE YOU ARE and the MY FEELINGS letters from Oskar's grandparents. Those letters say a lot about the story; how people live and how people try to live. Also the illustrations looked anything but kitschy. I like kitschy things heeeeeeeeeeeh.

So yes, this is what I have to say about this novel. It was very well-written. I hope I could read more novels like this!
